Motif ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the Motif platform ("the Service").

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

• Account information: name, email address (via Clerk authentication)
• Payment information: processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card details
• Content: text, URLs, audio, and video recordings you upload for processing
• Voice profile data: writing samples and edit history used to train your voice model
• Generated content: posts, newsletters, and blog content created by the Service

Information collected automatically:

• Usage analytics: page views, feature usage, and interaction events (via PostHog)
• Error reports: application errors and performance data (via Sentry)
• Device information: browser type, operating system, and screen size

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the Service, including content generation and voice training
• To process payments and manage your subscription
• To send transactional emails (account confirmations, payment receipts, service notifications)
• To send product-related emails (onboarding tips, usage summaries, retention reminders) — you can unsubscribe at any time
• To monitor and improve Service performance and reliability
• To enforce our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:

• Clerk — authentication and user management
• Convex — database and backend infrastructure
• Stripe — payment processing and subscription management
• OpenAI — content generation and transcription (your content is sent to OpenAI for processing but is not used to train their models)
• Cloudflare R2 — media file storage
• Resend — transactional email delivery
• PostHog — product analytics
• Sentry — error monitoring

Each third-party service processes data according to their own privacy policies. We select services that maintain appropriate security and privacy standards.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed from our systems, including your voice profile, uploaded content, generated outputs, and all associated records. Stripe may retain payment records as required by financial regulations.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the UK or European Economic Area, you have the following rights:

• Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Right to erasure: Delete your account and all associated data through the Settings page, or by contacting us
• Right to portability: Request your data in a portable format
• Right to object: Object to processing of your personal data for marketing purposes

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS). Authentication is managed by Clerk with industry-standard security practices. Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant).

8. Cookies & Tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. PostHog collects anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the Service. You can disable analytics tracking in your browser settings. We do not sell your data to third parties or use it for advertising.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
